Mas Fusion this year has been taken to greater heights by Artistic Directors Sharon George and Jill Wade-Smith.
Sharon was chosen as Artistic Director for the Opening Parade of the 14th NatWest Island Games which enabled her to produce a story book in 20 Chapters of the Isle of Wight’s history from the time of the Dinosaurs to Carnival Island. This was an amazing feat and welcomed 4,000 athletes to the Island on the 25th June. Mas Fusion were invited to perform in the opening ceremony of the Island Games our theme choice reflects the colours of the Olympic flag. Aptly named ‘Pure Colour’ an array of red, blue, yellow, green and black costumes representing the rings of the flag will be complimented by a collection of elaborate white and gold costumes symbolic of the white of the flag’s background. Many hours of work have gone into making more than 70 costumes that will appear in the carnivals this year, and weeks of dance practice.

We now have our photograph galleries on line for both the Sandown Main Carnival and the Ryde Main Carnival processions.
Sandown was a lovely balmy evening and there are some wonderful photographs of the troupe having a wonderful time. Ryde Main Carnival started off with the threat of rain and unfortunately it decided to rain all evening. Despite the inclement weather there are some nice photos of the troupe enjoying the evening.

Once again MAS FUSION, the Island’s BIGGEST voluntary community based Family Carnival Mas Band, will be performing at many of the Island carnivals this year, including Newport Carnival for the first time. The group of more than 100 members, young and old, will dance and perform their way around the streets of Ryde to some well known dance tracks  in what can only be described as costumes big and small.

Our theme for 2010 is called “Flights of Fancy”. The inspiration for this has been taken from the iridescence and vibrancy of a rainforest environment. We  hope the crowd will delight in the spectacle of  the costumes and movement, joining with us in a journey of discovery.

Feel the  passion of the pulsing rhythms as you move along with us!

MAS FUSION is a voluntary group who raise all their own  funds and make every single one of their amazing costumes. They would like to  thank everyone who has supported them this year, the volunteers who give up  their time to help with the costume making and helping with the hundred and one  things needed to do in order to put the show on the road and finally our  fabulous performers.

Mas Fusion hit the road running again we made it a hat tick by being placed 1st again in Shanklin Main Carnival which took place this Wednesday 6th August.

Here a a few photographs from the event. If asny of you are wondering why there are a few fuzzy images I’ve tried to capture the movement of the group, these pictures often look rather surreal, but I think it shows just how hard everyone works in costume.

On Sunday 13th July more than 50 members of the band travelled to Brighton to perform in the carnival. A fantastic day was had by everyone. A lovely sunny day ensured that the fabulous costumes looked their best. The performers showed off the new dance moves and wowed the crowds with the spectacular costumes as we moved throught the streets. The parade ended with a great stage performance and commentory from MD Coco P. To end what can only be described as a fantastic day we won the Oscar for MOST DYNAMIC GROUP. Well done MAS FUSION another superb show. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.
